My Approach

How Counselling Works

You have taken the first step towards finding a counsellor that you can trust and who you feel you can work with. It is important that you find a counsellor with experience and who will respect your values.

I believe that each of us has an inner drive towards a meaningful and healthy life and that counselling can help this happen.

You may be struggling with a specific problem or feeling dissatisfied or unfulfilled in your life. Or you may be feeling stuck and don't know how to resolve what is going on for you.

Counselling offers a supportive, safe space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, behaviours and actions without judgement. This process encourages you to gain insight and understanding about yourself and how your experiences in life have affected you. Your experiences and feelings will be at the heart of our working relationship.

How I Work

As a Humanistic Integrative counsellor, I believe we all have the capacity to change and reach our potential. Sometimes life's challenges can block us and we can feel stuck. It is my task to provide the right conditions to help you find ways to move forward in your life. Working with a Client Centred approach, I work with warmth, empathy and respect. I will work at your pace and with your agenda as the main focus of the sessions. The counselling relationship offers a safe space where you can explore your feelings, and together with your readiness, a positive change can be made.

As an Integrative therapist, I can tailor my approach to your needs by drawing on different elements of specific therapies.

My training and experience, together with my own life experiences has informed my counselling practice about how loss and endings can take many forms, and how this loss can impact a person. Counselling can help clients process their loss which can include loss of relationship, career, health or identity.

I work with the approach that how a person deals with loss is unique to them. Even when non death related, loss can be central to what clients need to explore in sessions. I work with the perspective that grief can be both lifelong and life changing.

Losses in the present can trigger depression and loneliness, and sometimes memories of past losses. Counselling can offer a space to process these past losses.

My practice is trauma informed which means that I am trained to help you understand how you may have developed survival strategies to help keep you safe as a response to what has happened in your life.

My degree is in literature which forms the foundation of my practice and is part of my professional identity. Studying literature has helped me build understanding and empathy about different worlds and how each individual's experience is unique to them. This background has helped shape my work as a counsellor so that I can work openly and creatively with clients.

I offer a free initial half hour consultation. This is an opportunity for you to see if you would like to work with me and for me to see how best I can work with you. Supervision

As a supervisor, I have been working with counsellors from a wide range of settings since 2015.

I have experience of supervising counsellors working in private practice, within the NHS, prisons, charities and Employment Assistance Programmes (EAPs). I provide supervision to trainee and qualified counsellors. I also provide supervision of supervision (SOS). I have experience of providing group and individual supervision.

I am passionate about providing a safe space where you feel supported and where you can discuss your case load without judgment. The focus of your client work is at the heart of the process, ensuring that you and your clients are safe.

Working together, supervision provides a space to consider reflective practice using Inskipp and Proctor's normative, formative and restorative model of supervision, as well as the Seven -Eyed model of supervision.

In the first session, during assessment, we can discuss the therapeutic agreement and ensure that the supervision follows the BACP's ethical framework and guidelines.

Supervision is provided online via Zoom.

  • £75 for a 1.5 hour session
